Gabber Eleganza Hakkeshow @ Volksbuehne Berlin
The Italian artist Gabber Eleganza will use any creative aspect to promote and create new pathways in his vision of hardcore culture– and everything that flows from it.
A scenic innovation has taken place at the Volksbühne Theatre Berlin.
Gabber Eleganza started as a curated web archive in 2011 which emerged in a extensive archive of hardcore & the post-rave Gabber era. It is a constant source of research and material, mainly focused on the aesthetics and style of it.
With his multidisciplinary label ‘Never Sleep’ he creates art exhibitions, book-projects, merchandise or live performances. In every way his work acts as a bridge between the sonic landscape and the aesthetic side of hardcore and electronic dance subcultures. The purpose of it is to re-evaluate a subculture that is often denigrated helping to generate a new cultural interest in it.
As a Dj he came under the radar for his effortless crossover in rave genres. The Hakke Show is the pinnacle of all projects: a classic Gabber set with a few selected dancers on stage and performative elements. Old music at its best, decontextualized and thus revived and reliveable, anti-nostalgic.
Hakken (sometimes Hakkûh or Hakeeeh) is a form of rave dance originating from the Dutch hardcore and Gabber scene in the 90’s and is inextricably linked to the Gabber culture. The lower body is the central part, although it is not unusual to also use the arms when you perform this dance.
